The Legend



Allah Rakha Rahman known as AR Rahman is one of India's most popular music directors. He was born in 1966 in Chennai (Madras). AR Rahman's original name was A.S.Dileep Kumar. Rahman started learning piano at the age of four. At the age of 9 Rahman's father passed away following mysterious illness. At the age of 11 Rahman joined Ilayaraja's troup as a keyboard player. He then composed some jingles for Advertisements and from there he got an offer for the film ROJA directed by Mani Ratnam. He has composed 100's of songs for films which got good reputation to Rahman in India and other countries.AR Rahman has worked with many reputed music directors and composers in South and North India and Abroad. Some of the movie names and advertisements for which AR Rahman has composed music and prestigious awards he bagged for best music director.
The Lord of the Rings wins SOBOM Achievement Award-11 December, 2007
The staging of "THE LORDS OF THE RINGS”, has won the “2007 SOBOM Achievement of the Year Award”. Awarded in past years in recognition of the rebuilding of the Lyceum Theatre, the reopening of the Sadler’s Wells Theatre and the success of the first SOLT Kids’ Week in 2000, the “2006 SOBOM Achievement of the Year” was awarded this time last year in recognition of the success and popularity of the TV show “How do you solve a problem like Maria”?
About SOBOM – THE SOCIETY OF BOX OFFICE MANAGERS
The general aim of the Society is to promote goodwill, fellowship and informed debate within the Box Office and Ticketing Industry. The Society aims to promote ideas and new developments in Box Office techniques within the ticketing, entertainment and leisure industries.
Various social events are organised throughout the year, with the jewel in the crown being the SOBOM Christmas lunch, which doubles as their annual Awards ceremony. Members vote throughout November and December for categories that include Best Play, Best Musical, Achievement of the Year, Personality of the Year and, quite often, a Lifetime Achievement Award.
